About Walker
I am a central Florida native but have called North Georgia home for the last twelve years. Growing up, I played a variety of sports. I settled on playing golf in High School and played successfully for Young Harris College (YHC) all four years. I graduated from YHC with a major in environmental science and minors in chemistry and biology.
Graduating college in 2020 was a challenging experience as many of the research positions I had applied to were no longer accepting applicants due to the crisis the world was in. I ended up accepting a high school science teaching position and completed my teaching certification during my first two years of teaching. In my third year of teaching, I started and completed my Masters in STEM Education through American College of Education.
Over the last seven years, I have used my school breaks to travel the world and explore the United States. I most often travel solo but am sometimes blessed with the company of my friend Andrea and other family members/friends. I am a planner and budget traveler, traveling with the main goal of experiencing everything a new place has to offer.
I have traveled to Costa Rica, Argentina, England, Scotland, Spain, Portugal, France, Ireland, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Canada, and Greece. I’ve spent time in the cities of San Francisco, Chicago, New York, Atlanta, Miami, and many more. I’ve experienced the natural beauty of Yosemite, Shenandoah, Acadia, Grand Canyon, Death Valley, Joshua Tree, Sequoia, Kings Canyon, Great Smoky Mountains, and Glacier Bay National Parks.
This year, I accepted an invitation to teach for 27 months with Peace Corps Kenya. This will be a unique experience for me as everything will be new: language, job, living arrangements, culture, and more. I am very grateful and excited for this opportunity. The main inspiration to start this blog was to keep my friends and family from home informed about how I am doing and what my experience is like.
