PCV in Kenya: Week 30
Monday
I decided to do my hair in bubble braids today but didn’t factor that into my morning timeline, so I was rushing to get to school on time (I made it 😊). I spent the morning working on the grant proposal and it should be reviewed soon so it can be officially submitted. I taught my two lessons at the end of the day then went to the market. I purchased vegetables for the week and went home. Back at home, Sammy was headed to the market on his bike, so I gave him my empty gas tank and money to fill it up while he was there which was super helpful. I did a workout then hooked my gas tank back up when Sammy returned. I warmed up dinner and watched last week’s episode of “Criminal Minds” before calling it a night.
Tuesday
After today’s three lessons, I finalized my End of Term exams for biology and chemistry. When I got home from school, I prepped vegetables for dinner and watched an episode of “The Mentalist” while working on a bracelet. I worked out then cooked lentil, potato, and vegetable stew which turned out so good. It was a pretty uneventful day with the exception of Meeko! We found out Sammy’s cat is a boy, so I’ve named him Meeko after the raccoon in “Pocahontas”.
Wednesday
I’m not sure why, but I thought it was Thursday all day today. I even made plans based on it being Thursday. My lessons went well and I did a lot of planning for activities for next term which was super productive for me. Back at home, I finished the bracelet I’ve been working on before taking out the trash and starting a new bracelet. I did some yoga and a workout before heating dinner. I watched “IF” and it was a super cute way to end my day.
Thursday
Today was actually Thursday, unlike yesterday when I thought it was, and all my lessons were in the computer lab. This is always fun to me. I did more preparation work for future projects and assessments in Term 3. Phanuel and I then gave our students permission slips for Grassroots Soccer and we took some fun photos with our first group. On my way home, I stopped at the market and picked up vegetables. At home, I watched “The Mentalist” while working on a bracelet before doing a workout. I warmed up dinner and took a quick shower before the power went out because of the big storm that was rolling in. I started listening to a new podcast tonight called “30 Minutes in the New Testament” and I think it’ll become part of my routine now.
Friday
My two morning lessons went well, so it was a great start to my Friday. I spent the rest of the day working on an assessment for Term 3 then headed home. At home, I planned for more of the November trip then did some quick laundry. I also had time to sweep the house before doing yoga and putting dudu dust around all the corners of my home because the ants were out in large numbers today for some reason. I warmed up dinner and talked to some friends from home before opening up all the letters I received today. It was a great way to end the work week. I love hearing from my friends and family 😊
Saturday
I woke up very early which gave me plenty of time to make shakshuka for breakfast. It turned out delicious and I will definitely be making it again 😊 I spent the afternoon working on bracelets in the eno. It was very relaxing. I started working on making gnocchi around 3PM because it takes me a lot of time. But, like last time, it was very worth it because it turned out delicious. From here, I collected my clean laundry from the line before doing dishes from the day.
Sunday
I had leftover shakshuka for breakfast and it was just as good as yesterday. I watched “The Mentalist” and worked on bracelets in the morning. I made pancakes for lunch then went on a long walk with Sue, my neighbor. We took some new paths that I hadn’t been on before and it was good to see some new parts of my community. When I got back, I worked out and had leftover gnocchi for dinner. I facetimed Warren before I went to sleep because he is deploying for 8 months starting today. It was great to talk to my brother to end my week.
