PCV in Kenya: Week 41

Monday

I had a great night of sleep and a relaxing morning at Sosa. We left for the training schools around 10AM. I was at Muhaya and Dr. Morris today while Mike went to Musiri and Kap Chem Gum. We were helping the trainees co-plan and co-teach lessons today in preparation for their first round of observations tomorrow. It was a great day and fun to interact with everyone. We went back to Sosa around 5PM. On the way there, we drove past my old homestay and Mama Margaret was outside. I said hello and also got to see Mama Sylvia and her two sons. It was so nice to see all of them 😊 We got back to Sosa, beating the rainstorm by a few minutes. I showered then went to dinner. We watched “Remember the Titans” (I love this movie so much) then called it a day.

Tuesday

I woke up and got a workout in before eating breakfast. We then headed out to the training schools. I was at Musiri and Kap Chem Gum today. Our job was to observe teaching techniques today and I think it was another great day. We worked until 4PM then went back to Sosa. I ate dinner then talked to Grams on the phone because she arrived in Georgia today for my brother’s wedding this weekend. It was a great way to end my day 😊

Wednesday – 1 Year in Kenya

I arrived in Kenya one year ago today! I have been able to meet some amazing people and do some great work with my community. I am excited for the next year 😊 Today, we were at the training schools by 8AM. I was at Muhaya today and we continued doing observations today. After chai time, we headed to the education training center where Mike and I helped facilitate a debrief of the week with Patrick. We then headed back to Sosa and treated ourselves by eating lunch at Sosa instead of going to a local hoteli. I got chips masala and it was a great choice. I rested in the afternoon and did a workout before enjoying a last Sosa dinner of the week.

Thursday

I started the day off with a morning workout. I then packed up my things and got ready for my trip back to site. I enjoyed breakfast before a car drove me into town. I got on a matatu and had to wait a little bit before it departed. I was soon back to site though. I purchased some vegetables from the market before walking home. At home, I unpacked everything and moved Nala and her things back into my house. I made my weekly box of popcorn then prepared mac and cheese with avocado toast while watching “Abbott Elementary”. I then did dishes and showered before watching “The Revenant”.

Friday

I got to school for my early lesson and taught until lunchtime. I then went home to eat lunch and rest before going back to school for GRS. It was a great lesson. Our energizer for the day was “The Cupid Shuffle” 😊 I walked home with Laura and it was fun to chat with her. I watched “Abbott Elementary” and talked to Morgan and Warren before going to bed.

Saturday

I woke up at 6AM and had Java House cake for breakfast 😊 I then spent the majority of the day marking biology midterm exams. I watched “Cold Case” and “Abbott Elementary” whenever I needed breaks. I did finish marking exams today and that felt great!

Sunday – Warren & Morgan’s Wedding

I spent the morning tidying up the house and painting my nails. I also made pancakes for breakfast and ate them for lunch as well 😊 I called my mom and got to talk to her and Aunt Rhonda and Heidi because they were together for Warren and Morgan’s wedding tonight. I watched “Law and Order S.V.U.” and “Abbott Elementary” in the afternoon. For dinner, I made mac and cheese with avocado toast. I also did some yoga before calling it a night.
